Ipswich Green Party to launch local 'Clean Investment'
campaign.
24th Apr 2007
Members of Ipswich Green Party are to launch a petition
calling for local councils and institutions to withdraw
all funding and investments from arms companies.
Figures published by the Campaign Against the Arms
Trade that were obtained under the Freedom of Information
Act show that as of 31st December 2005
Suffolk Pension Fund (managed by Suffolk County Council) held the following
shareholdings:
BAE Systems = £3,345,567
Rolls Royce = £2,045,839
Total = £5,391,496
(This does not include pooled funds that may also
include arms comany investment.)
Not only do these companies make weapons and products
that fuel conflict and kill and maim millions of people
world wide, they are also heavily subsidised by you
the tax payer. By campaigning for instititions to withdraw
their investments we can start to break the stranglehold
these companies have over British democracy.
Pension funds are particularly important. Do you really
want the security of your future in the hands of companies
that thrive off insecurity?
Didn't think so. Please register your interest either at the Campaign Against
the Arms Trade stall in Alexandra Park on 6th May park, or through the East
Anglian Social Forum. A dedicated website and email will be set up shortly.
